About Richardson Bay

All of Richardson Bay is shallow, but some parts more than others. The blue area in the map has 6 feet or less water at lower, low water, while the olive green area is mud. However, even the white area inside an arc from "G3" through pylon "2" to the sewage plant, is only about 20 feet deep. To the West of this arc the depth increases sharply to about 100 feet, to form the continuation of Raccoon Strait out to the Golden Gate.

Eel grass grows in thick patches in the area to the North of the Sausalito channel, where many boats are anchored. This can be an annoyance for a rower at low tide.
