"G3" is anchored 40-60 m off Belvedere Point (on charts given the rather generic name "Peninsula Point"). The anchor is on the edge of an underwater shelf about 20m deep.
The rapid currents that flow into and out of Raccoon Strait over this shelf can cause considerable turbulence, particularly on an ebb flow. The behavior of the water is often very irregular, white water for a minute or two and then quiet for a time. Floating sea weed and wood trash often concentrate in patches during these conditions.A rock ridge extends out about 10 m to the South of the Point, and several of the rocks are hidden at high tide. Thus stay away at least 10 m unless you are sure you know where they are.
The buoy moves about 20 m between flood and ebb currents, which can be 3 knts or more. If you get close to the buoy make sure you observe the velocity and direction of the current so you don't get swept into the buoy (like your webmaster did one time). Casual observation suggests that the current changes about one hour earlier here than the NOAA Golden Gate predictions.
