If you get to buoy "G1" you are about leave the rather protected Richardson Bay area to enter a real shipping lane. The majority of ships will be leaving San Francisco Bay to pass under the Golden Gate Bridge. However, occasionally a ship will be moving in the opposite direction. If you row past "G1" you must be going to Alcatraz Island or beyond, and hopefully know what you are doing.
