Our friend Carl White passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003. Here's what he had to say about rowing:
I don't know if you come into yourself or out of yourself when you row, but there's something about it that is just tremendously rejuvenating.
I was drawn to rowing because of its steep learning curve. It's a sport of constant improvement and when you make progress, you feel it immediately. I figured I'd done everything else from racing cars to playing polo. Besides it's wonderful exercise. I also occasionally row in Berkeley in a quad and that's fun too. But the one thing I love about getting out on the bay is that it's something you can accomplish by yourself.
At this age, the big event of the day for most of my contemporaries is going out to lunch. So, I really don't have many friends my age to play with. My advice to everyone is keep active, mentally and physically. Just get out there! Keep rowing.
